Learn Self-Retightening and Protect Your Investment

Investing in your locs is more than just a financial commitment; it’s a dedication to maintaining their health and strength. At times, the unexpected happens—financial constraints, relocation, or unavailability of your loctician—but knowing how to retighten your own locs can make all the difference. Our self-retightening classes are designed to empower you with the skills needed to keep your locs in optimal condition, no matter the circumstance.

Why You Should Take a Self-Retightening Class and Protect Your Investment

Maintaining your locs is crucial to keeping them healthy and strong. Here are some compelling reasons to take a self-retightening class:

Help Your Locs Recover Before They Become Weak

By learning how to retighten your locs, you can:

  • Save locs that have been compromised, preventing further damage.

  • Avoid losing locs by maintaining them regularly and correctly.

Manage Financial Obligations

If your financial situation changes, knowing how to retighten your locs can be a lifesaver:

  • Maintain a portion or all of your locs until your situation improves.

  • Some people retighten half of their head and have a loctician complete the other half.

  • Prevent loc loss by not extending the time between retightenings.

Avoid Dependency on a Loctician

Circumstances may arise where your loctician is not available:

  • If you or your loctician relocates, it may take time to find a new loctician.

  • Many locticians do not accept transfer clients, so knowing how to retighten your locs can give you the necessary flexibility.

  • If I retighten my hair will this impact my retightening cost?
Typically individuals will notice a decrease in cost when they go for retightenings. The more you retighten, the less your loctician would have to retighten which typically drives cost down. Check with your loctician to confirm.
  • How many locs should I leave out for the class and how much growth do I need?
It is recommended that you leave a few rows un-tightened for the retightening class (See below). Section your hair in four sections, part down the middle and ear to ear. - 3 rows from the bottom left section (near the ear) - 3 rows from the bottom right secion (near the ear) - 2 rows from the bottom left section (bottom row) - 2 rows from the bottom right section (bottom row) * Hair should be at least 3/4" of new growth and not exceed 1" of new growth if possible. Growth over 1" can make it challenging for novice.
  • I wear glasses, will that be a problem for the class?
Eye glasses can interfere with retightening locs close to the ears. Those who wear contacts find it easier to navigate in that area. If you do not wear contacts you can still take the class.
  • My nails are long, is that going to be a problem?
Typically, students who have long nails find it challenging to retighten their locks. We highly recommend trimming down your nails for this class.
  • What is the class size?
To ensure that the class size remains small, we will accept up to 6 students per class.
  • Will I receive the Enerlocks locking tool as part of my tool kit?
Currently, the Enerlocks tool kit is not offered as part of the hands-on self-retightening class. Students will receive an interlocking needle tool.
  • Can I schedule a self-retightening class outside of scheduled group classes?
Yes. You can book your class online.
  • Where are classes held?
In-person classes are held at the below location: Loxury Zen Studio Two Education + Training Room The Bridge Healing Arts Center 304 Main Street St Suite D421 Farmington, CT 06032 Virtual classes available upon request.
  • Can I bring a guest to my class?
